    Verna M. Meckley, 89, of Hanover, PA, entered God's eternal care, Monday, May 31, 2021, at her home with her loving family by her side.

    Born September 21, 1931, in Spring Grove, PA, she was the daughter of the late Raymond A. and Amanda K. (Sellers) Miller. She was the loving wife of the late Clitus Elder Meckley, with whom she celebrated 67 years of marriage, until his passing on November 16, 2020.

    Verna was a member of the Black Rock Church of the Brethren, Glenville, PA, and the Jewish Agency for Israel.

    Verna graduated in 1949 from Codorus High School, Glenville, PA, playing goalie on the girls' hockey team. She received her teaching certificate in 1955 from York College of PA and taught elementary school at West Manheim Elementary School, Hanover, PA, and at Manchester Elementary School, Manchester, MD, where she was awarded Teacher of the Year, teaching for a total of ten years until her retirement.

    Verna had a passion for traveling, she along with her husband Clitus visited all 50 of the United States, as well as much of Europe and South America. She was especially proud of her trips to Israel. She was an amazing seamstress and used to run a part-time sewing company called Tic-Tac Sew. She loved to play cards, especially 500 and solitaire, and take long drives through the countryside, and most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

    Verna is survived by two daughters, Diane K. Meckley Wentz and spouse, of Taneytown, MD, and Gail F. Meckley Smith and fiancé, of Laurel, MD, two granddaughters, Alicia K. Wentz of Durham, NC, and Eryka L. Wentz of Baltimore, MD, and two step-grandsons. She also leaves behind her siblings, Ivan Miller of Fort Washington, MD, Raymond Miller of Denver, PA, and Grace Zartman of Spring Grove, PA. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Amspacher and Bernice Miller.

    Services to celebrate Verna's life will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, PA.
