September 09, 2003 Verda R Wagner STURGIS - Verda R Wagner, 95, of Sturgis MI., died Thursday, Sept. 4, 200 3, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. She was born Oct. 29, 1907, in Manton MI., a daughter of Samuel and Phoe be (Shook) Garn. Mrs. Wagner resided in Sturgis most of her life. Her ear ly life was spent in Wexford CO MI. On Dec. 31, 1927, she married Walter J Wagner in Lake City. He died Apr il 21, 1977. She retired from the National Carbon Coated Paper Compa ny in Sturgis after 21 years of employment. Mrs. Wagner was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Sturgis a nd a member of the Philathea Class of the church. She enjoyed gardening, c rocheting, fishing, bowling and loved playing cards, board games and domin oes. Surviving are: her son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Doramae Wagner of R ough and Ready, Calif.; three grandchildren and their spouses, Gregory a nd Linda Wagner of Banning, Calif., Kendal and Monica Wagner of Buena Par k, Calif., and Cynthia and Scott Black of Menominee MI.; four great-grand children, Nicholas Wagner, Jacob Wagner, Crystal Wagner and Kaitlyn Blac k; and several nieces and nephews, including Phoebe and Gary Miller of Bu rr Oak. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters. Funeral services celebrating the life of Verda R Wagner will be he ld at 11 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Jam es Bender will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the servi ce at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Sturgis. The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mrs. Wagn er's memory consider the First Baptist Church in Sturgis.
