MEBANE — Mrs.. Vera Sykes Freeland, 75, of 403 N. Ninth St., Mebane, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a long illness.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Thomas Jackson “Jack” Freeland, who died in 1981, and the daughter of Mr. Ralph Dewey Sykes Sr. and Mrs.. Mary Margaret Graves Sykes, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs.. Judy Farrar of Graham and Mrs.. Kathy “K.T.” (Byron) Tucker of Elon; two sons, Mr. Thomas J. Freeland Jr.. of North Augusta, S.C., and Mr. Roger L. Sykes Sr. of Haw River; a sister, Mrs.. Betty Dorsett of Mebane; a brother, Mr. Ralph D. Sykes Jr.. of Mebane; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs.. Mildred L. Dandridge, and a brother, Mr. Tyree B. Sykes.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Cemetery in Mebane by the Rev. Terry Creech, associate pastor of Glen Hope Baptist Church.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Service in Mebane one hour before the service, and also at the home after 11 a.m. today.
