She was born on June 10, 1920 in Troy, Vt., daughter of Dorothy Flint Morey and Clyde Morey. Vera was married to Henry A Parker, Jr. on June 20, 1938 in Morrisville. After living in Newport, Vt., Noank, Conn. and Jeffersonville, Vt., they settled in Johnson in 1947 and built their home on Clay Hill. Vera graduated from Newport Center High School, received her LPN from Fanny Allen Nursing School, and then graduated from Johnson State College with a BA degree in Art in 1975. She worked at the Chatfield Nursing Home, was the Johnson Town librarian, and then the Circulation Librarian at Johnson State College for over 17 years. Vera was an avid reader, loved her mysteries, and spent relentless hours reading to her grandchildren. As a naturalist, she was an expert on birds and wildflowers. Vera was a member of the United Church of Johnson and will have received her 65 year pin from the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 65 of Johnson. Vera is survived by her children, Keith Parker and his wife Judy of Greer, S.C., Jill Chaffee of Derby Line, Vt. and Laurel Persico and her husband Patrick of Morrisville, Vt; also her grandchildren Stephanie Proper and her husband Dan of Shelby, N.C., Melissa Goldstein and her husband Michael of Juneau, Alaska, Kristen Laing and her husband Dan of Hastings, Neb., Rebecca Chaffee of Chicago, Ill., Jared Chaffee of Pembroke, N.H., Dorey Chaffee of Daytona Beach, Fla., Lyman Persico and his wife Angela of Albuquerque, N.M. and Christopher Persico of Morrisville, Vt. She is also survived by her sisters-in law Dorothy Morey of Troy, Vt., Gretchen Hedin and her husband Carl of Sachse, Texas, and Rita Parker of Johnson, Vt. Vera leaves five great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins and her dear friend Anna Dermody of St. Albans, Vt. She was predeceased by her husband; her oldest son Henry III; her brother James Morey; her sister Alice Morey; and her brother-in law Richard Parker. Vera's life will be celebrated at the United Church in Johnson on Saturday, Dec. 15th at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent toe the Children's Book Fund, c/o Johnson Public Library, Railroad Street, Johnson, Vt. 05656 or to charity of your choice.
