Obituary: Daily Democrat, Clinton MO, Oct 24 2002 - Vera Evelyn McGrath Tullis was born August 15, 1915, at Omaha, Nebraska, a daughter of Edward and Eva Bell Shipley McGrath. She died October 12, 2002, at Clinton Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was married to Leonard Vernon Tullis at Osceola on February 12, 1934. He preceded her in death in August 1999. Her parents and one grandson, Darrin Tullis, also preceded her in death. She was a member of the Christian Church of Clinton, having accepted Christ in 1955. Vera was a lifelong homemaker and excellent cook. She learned to make pies and cakes at an early age and often gave her specialty pies to someone she wanted to reward or give a life of spirit to. Her greatest enjoyment came from doing something for her family. She enjoyed music and always had the radio on or was playing some of her albums on the record player. She was always ready to help someone in need, was very organized about her household chores and had tireless energy in keeping her house in order. She enjoyed raising a garden and had flowers growing all around her house. She was very busy and content as long as she could see her cows and calves. She was a true farmer at heart, as she was always thinking of growing or preserving something. It was due to her indomitable and strong will that she was able to continue her long life in spite of the ravages of Alzheimer's. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Survivors include one son, Michael Tullis and wife Joyce, Brownington; one daughter Beverly Allen and husband Alva, Clinton; three grandchildren, Stephen Foster and wife Debbie, Liberty, Jerry Foster and wife Jodean, Jefferson City, and Lisa Haines and husband Robert, state of Mississippi. Funeral services were held October 16, at the Consalus-Bradley Chapel, with Rev. Alan Anzalone officiating. Pallbearers were Stephen Foster, Jerry Foster, Jacob Foster, Kurtis Foster, Robert Haines, Brad Elmer and Dan Lasswell. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery.
