VERA MAE WARDWELL Vera Mae Wardwell, 76, of Marysville, died Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, in the Morey Center at Memorial Hospital after a short illness. A loving homemaker, she will be remembered as a warm and caring woman who was devoted to her children, her granddaughters, her church and her community. She was a member of Marysville First United Methodist Church, its Ladies' Morning Circle, and the Monday morning Women's Bible Study. She was a 1947 graduate of Roosevelt High School in Yonkers, N.Y., and was a graduate of St. John's Riverside Hospital. She served as a registered nurse for many years prior to raising her family but maintained her registration for more than 40 years. She was a longtime volunteer with the Mobile Meals program at Memorial Hospital of Union County, having accumulated more than 1,000 volunteer hours, and had been an active member of Twig No. 1. She was a former member of the Central Ohio Weaving Guild and enjoyed quilting, many crafts, playing piano and her pets. She was born July 17, 1929, in Hallowell, Maine, to the late Lee F. and Christine H. Lord Hescock. She married William C. Wardwell on Oct. 15,1955, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 1991. Survivors include two daughters, Cindy Lamneck and her fiancée Bill Cupps of Marysville, and Deborah (Ken) Sofer of West Park, N.Y.; two sons, Robert (Kyoko) Wardwell of Marysville, and John (Cathy) Wardwell of England; two granddaughters, Justine and Devon Lamneck; her sister, Miriam (John) Sherman of New Jersey; two brothers-in-law, Donald (Barbara) Wardwell of Illinois, and Thomas Wardwell of Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Marysville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Teller officiating. Private family burial will take place at Oakdale Cemetery at a later date. Friends are invited to a fellowship luncheon at the Burnside Family Life Center at the church immediately following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Mobile Meals, Memorial Hospital of Union County, 500 London Ave., Marysville, Ohio 43040.
