    Velma Lillian Tullis

    BARTLETT -- Velma Lillian Tullis, 89, of Bartlett, died Sunday, July 8, 2001, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

    She was born Jan. 19, 1912, at Chetopa to Floid and Nellie (Oliphant) Hackleman. She lived in the Chetopa and Bartlett areas her entire life.

    She graduated from high school in Chetopa in 1929 and received a diploma from Joplin Business College in 1930. She worked at the U.S. Census Bureau at KAAP in Parsons and was postmaster at Bartlett from 1974 to 1985.

    She was a member of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States and of the Kansas Postmasters Association.

    She married Arthur D. Tullis on Aug. 3, 1935. He preceded her in death on Aug. 26, 1981.

    Survivors include two sons, Zane Tullis of Inola, Okla., and Dwight Tullis of Malibu, Calif.; a daughter, Nina Mae Ross of Bartlett; two brothers, Othol Hackleman of Coffeyville and Basil Hackleman of Springfield, Mo.; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

    Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Bath Funeral Home in Chetopa with the Rev. Fred Woolridge officiating. Burial will be at Lake Creek Cemetery in Bartlett. Visitation will be today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Bath Funeral Home in Chetopa. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bath Funeral Home in Chetopa.
