An article about the head-on collision that claimed Mack Huyler appears in the Wednesday, November 24, 1976 issue of the High Point Enterprise. It reads:

“HEAD-ON COLLISION CLAIMS LIFE OF HIGH POINT MAN, INJURES 3 A head-on collision Tuesday about 2:30 p.m. on Wendover Avenue near Tarrant Road claimed the life of one man and resulted in two women being hospitalized.

Killed was Mack Huyler, 73, of 916 Randolph St. Highway patrolmen said that Huyelr was alone in his car at the time of the accident. He was dead on arrival at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

Listed in satisfactory condition today at High Point Memorial were Mable Marie Short and Brenda Joyce Robertson, both of Rt. 11, Greensboro, and both passengers in a car driven by Albert S. Short, 68, who was treated and released from the hospital.

Patrolmen said that a witness told them that the Huyler vehicle crossed to the left lane and ran head-on into the Short car.

Mr. Huyler was born in Lexington County, SC, April 2, 1903, and had been a resident of the High Point vicinity for about 16 years. He was a retired brick mason and was of the Baptist faith. In 1960, he married Ruth Sexton. She survives of the home.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Mrs. Roy (Betty) Albea of Decatur, GA; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Cumby Chestnut Drive Chapel by the Rev. E. M. Gardner and the Rev. Fred Dancey. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The body will remain at the Cumby Mortuary, and the family will be there Thursday night 7 to 9 and at 1204 Cloverdale St.”
