Sister Valeria Lenca taught in 11 area Catholic schools for 56 years before retiring in 1985.
Sister Valeria, 84, died in her sleep at St. Joseph's Convent in Cleveland Friday night. She had been active in the convent and attended crafts classes regularly until her death.
She joined the Congregation of St. Joseph - a Cleveland Catholic order - in 1928 and completed her vows in 1933.
She taught elementary classes at St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Martin's and St. Ignatius parish schools, in Cleveland; Immaculate Conception School, in Akron; St. Joseph School, in Canton; St. Columbkille and St. Anthony of Padua parish schools, in Parma; and at St. Wenceslas School - both when it was located in Cleveland's Broadway neighborhood and, after it was closed for freeway construction, at its new location in Maple Heights.
Her last teaching assignment was at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic School in Elyria.
She is survived by a sister, Helen Hanis, of Parma.
A wake service will be tonight at 7 at St. Joseph Hall Chapel, 3430 Rocky River Dr., Cleveland.
