Wednesday, August 2, 1916

Very warm. I have written to Bro Man, J H Thomas, W T Bales & Mrs H B Pilley. Dr Marsh came this [eve]. Dr J. M. Taylor came this eve. We got a trained nurse last night. Miss Mae. Papa is unconcious, gradualy going away from us. We have lots of company. This is a sad time for us all.

Thursday, August 3, 1916

Warm. Kinder clowdy. Papa is low. We phoned Guss & Turner. Turner will come on the night train. Papa died about eleven oclock. We had a housefull of company. people were very good & kind to us. My darling one has gone from me. I am so sad & lonely. Turner came tonight but Papa was gone. he died so easy.

Friday, August 4, 1916

Very warm. Guss, Fay, Blanche & Kenneth and little Will came on the morning train. Papa was burried at 5 oclock ths eve. the Masons burried him. Mrs Peoples, dear old soul, stayed with us, she is such a comfort to me. We had a house full: Jims folks, Guss & Fay, Sisters folks, Blanche, Kenneth & little Will Shine. Bro Mann preached Funeral of Dr U H Shine at X Roads Cemetary. he was burrie[d] at Crossroads Cemetary the 4 day of August 1916.
