- ↑ The state copy of the birth record says "Zeriah Pierce", a female, was born 28 Jun 1752. Winchester vital records are not online to see if this was copied correct. NEHGR, Vol. 38, p. 287, "Records of Winchester, N.H." attribute the birth on 28 Jun 1752 to "Jeremiah", who would, of course, be male. Depending on how the original record was written, sometimes the gender is an assumption of the transcriber based on the name they see, sometimes the original record says son or daughter, but ultimately, as the original is not available, it is unclear even what the gender is. The suspicion would be that the name was "Zerviah", transcribed accurately or not as "Zeriah" on the state copy, and being an unfamiliar name to author of the NEHGS article, as "Jeremiah" there. No obvious record under any of these names, such as marriage or death or father's probate, has been located, and as this family is largely ignored by the various Pierce sources, no help has been found. More research is needed.
