Heritage?

We actually know nothing about the mother of Edward's son, except that if she is the adult female with Edward in the 1800 & 1810 census, she was born between 1755 and 1765. The mother of his son is clearly not the wife with him in 1820, so likely she died before 1820. Based on family oral history concerning a Native American wife for Edward, we suggest she is his first wife and the mother of Edward Jr.. At least two of Edward's (Jr) sons has decidedly Native features and more than one line of descent maintains they have Native heritage. This idea of a Native wife is supported by the fact that Edward was a Ranger and would have had many opportunities to befriend Native Americans (most likely Abenaki, but other tribes are also possible) during his war service (1777-1783).
