Facts and Events
Grant was but 4 years old when his mother, Mahala Ann died on 10 SEP 1871. His father married second, Mary Bunnell, in 1872 and she died 27 DEC 1881. At the age of 14 his father married third, Malinda Feller, in 1882. So Grant grew up with three mothers. He was 19 when oil was discovered in may 1887 on his father's farm and 21 when he married Minnie. In 1892, his father moved to North Baltimore OH and Grant moved into Samuel's farm house and took over the farming. While Grant was farming, an old timer in Henry Twp. would come to the farm and dig for the legendary treasure of General Hull. The General was supposed to have buried the pay roll of gold in a cannon barrel when he was on his way to Detroit to fight the British during the War of 1812, where he surrended. If the story was true, the treasure is still awaiting discovery. Grant later went to work for the OH Oil Company. In 1918, Grant divorced Minnie Mae and soon relocated to Casper, Wyoming. Grant operated a trucking service for sometime in Wyoming, delivering oil field supplies to the oil fields. In his later years he worked in a defense plant in Casper. After the divorce, Minnie Mae moved to her father’s house in Hammansburg. Family tradition has it that when Grant went to Wyoming he took a woman with him and it believed that he married her. Also that he probably married a third time. Grant was a member of the United Brethern Church. |
