- The birth date given for Ulysses in the 1900 census and on his delayed birth registration (Aug 1893) is only 4 1/2 months before the birth date of his brother Harry. This is not credible if they are sons of the same mother.
One possibility is that Ulysses was actually born Aug 1892. This would make the gaps in birth years reasonable and quite consistent over the first several children of this family.
Alternately, it is possible that either Ulysses or Harry was adopted - the 1900 census makes it clear that they were both 6 years old at the time, which seems an unlikely error if they were 16 months apart in age. However, the 1900 census also implies that they were both Anna's sons (she had 8 children, 8 of whom were living, and Ulysses and Harry are among the 8 children listed with the family in this census).
