Placed in this family because Tillinghast Bentley b. 1762/1767 was the only Bentley head of household in 1820 census of Richmond, Ontario, NY. He was called Tillness 2d but that doesn't mean his father's name was Tillinghast/Tillness.

    Tillness Bentley 2d was born in 1792, and came from Saratoga. He married Lorada Baker, daughter of William. He was a soldier in the War of 1812, under Major Allen, and was at Lundy's Lane. He had six children, of whom Mrs. Crooks was the fourth. He was a leading pirit in the organization of the old M. E. church, which stood east of Abbey's Corners, the first services of which were held in Mr. Baker's barn.
