Thorma Porter Beer 1915 - 2004 Billing Gazette 3/3/2004 STEVENSVILLE - Thorma Porter Beer , 89, of Stevensville died on Sunday, March 21, 2004, at the home of her daughter. She was born on March 12, 1915, in Auburn, Wyoming., and was the daughter of David Wight and Sarah Ann (Ashdown) Porter. She married Albert Floyd Beer in Las Vegas on June 29, 1935, and was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 6, 1949. The couple lived in Pioche and Kimberly, Neb., and raised their children in American Fork, Utah. They moved to Stevensville at retirement in 1972 to be closer to their daughter, Sylvia ( John ) Joost and her grandchildren. Thorma loved doing handiwork. She made many quilts, which she gave away to family and friends, she crocheted edges on pillowcases and handkerchiefs and was always keeping her hands busy. She also was a writer, leaving many poems and reflections for the enjoyment of friends and family. She loved to dance and travel and she especially loved teaching the youth in her church. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding many jobs in that organization during her lifetime. She worked as a cook in schools and in a nursing home and was a nurse's aid. Thorma, during her lifetime, spent many hours helping out neighbors and family in many capacities. She had a compassionate heart for those in need. Her family and friends will miss her being with them. She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd; a son, Marlin; her parents; nine brothers and sisters; and a granddaughter. She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia and John Joost of Stevensville; her daughter-in-law, Harriett in Sun City, Ariz., 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren (so far). Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 25, at the Stevensville LDS Chapel. Visitation will be from noon-1 p.m. that same day at the church. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Spanish Fork Cemetery in Spanish Fork, Utah.
