Thomas Young was born c1765/66 in Virginia. He died c1795 in Washington Co., TN. Thomas Young married in Virginia prior to October 10, 1785, Mary Rutledge b. c1768, died after July 7, 1810.* She was the daughter of Thomas Rutledge and Jean Armstrong of Augusta Co., VA. Her father’s will (Thomas Rutledge) is from Augusta Co., VA Will Book VII, p 378, dated October, 10, 1785. An abstract of the will: Thomas Rutledge - planter - to wife, Jean, executrix and sons James and Edward, executors; to wife Jean, apprentice boy, John Fogle; Negro wench, Chloe, to choose which son she will live with: James, John, Thomas, Edward; to sons Thomas and Edward the home plantation; to sons James and John, lands in Botetourt Co., on Roanoke, on North Fork; to sons Thomas and Edward 100 acres in South Carolina on branch of Fishing Creek; to all four sons; to daughter Katarina Rutledge; to son George Rutledge, 1 shilling to daughter Elizabeth Armstrong; 1 shilling to daughter Anna Henderson; 1 shilling to daughter Mary Young; 1 shilling to daughter Jean Brooks. Teste: Patrick Buchanan, Henry Marshall. Proved 21st June 1791 by the witnesses. Jean Rutledge appeared and refused to execute. Other executors qualified.

The following abstract will be of interest to the descendants of Thomas and Mary Rutledge Young:

Augusta County, VA Will Book 3, p 260, dated June 2, 1762 - the Will of James Armstrong names Jean Rutledge (Mary Rutledge Young’s mother) as a daughter. Others named as heirs were: James Armstrong, Thomas Rutledge, George Rutledge, and Elizabeth Armstrong.

It is evident that Thomas and Mary R. Young were buried in Washington Co., TN, as this was where they died. However, the location of their graves is unknown.
