Thomas Woolgar's origins have yet to be established. If the age quoted on his burial is correct, he was born around 1755. His first confirmed sighting is in August 1776, when he was married Ann Roy at Pagham in Sussex. They had fourteen children baptised at Pagham between 1776 and 1800, although at least three died as infants.

Thomas was buried at Pagham on 20th March 1836. His burial records that he had lived in the hamlet of Lagness. Ann survived him by three years.

    This is the closest baptism found for a Thomas Woolgar at roughly the time, but it is about twenty miles from Pagham. Whilst the Thomas baptised at Storrington does not appear to have died or married there, further evidence is still needed to either confirm or disprove whether this is the right person.
