From Family Findings Vol 9 #2, pp 20-23, April 1977: "One of the first families that settled east of Bells, Tennessee in the presnet Walnut Hill Community was Thomas and Dilly Ann Williams. They came from North Carolina, reportedly in a one-horse cart, and purchased a large tract of land in the area of the Forked Deer River near where the present Walnut Hill Baptist church now stands. . . Walnut Hill Baptist church was organized about 1849, with services held in a log schoolhouse. The seats were made of logs with no backs. The first building was erected of logs in 1852 on a one acre lot which was donated by Newton Williams, son of Thomas and Dilly Ann Williams. The town of Bells had not been formed at this time and Walnut Hill was the only Baptist Church in this area."
