Thomas vance and his family came to Collin Co., Texas in 1845. The 1850 census, the only one in which Thomas is listed, gives his birth year as 1782 and tha he was born in Kentucky. His wife was R - - Mount born 1794 in Maryland. Thomas was a carpenter.

  In 1850, his son and his wife, Fountain and Pernina Vance, were living in the house with Thomas. In adjacent houses were Charles King Solomon Vance, John Vance and James Vance. James Vance married Mary E. (Polly) Beverly, the sister of Pernina. "King" Vance was killed near the end of the Civil War.
