Thom worked as a truck farmer and various job in Oak Lawn ant the Chicago area. 1943 he started his own truck hauling business which later became part of Waste Management, Inc. now WMX technologies, Inc. He served as vice president. He served on many Christian school boards and held office in many Associations.
