Thomas Taylor, Sr. (c.1750 - 1812)
Birthplace: Virginia, United States
Death: Died November 9, 1812 in Talladega, Alabama, United States
Evidence for Thomas Taylor and Anna Campbell Taylor being in western North Carolina territory during the 1770s is derived from land grant records for 1779 and 1782. On February 16,1779 the Surveyor of Washington County was directed by North Carolina authorities to measure off 400 acres of land for Alexander Campbell (circa 1752-circa 1785) in Carter's Valley, land adjoining that of Tho. Tayloe (Thomas Taylor), including the place where John Jackson lived. This reference, plus another reference referred to above, that to an acreage awarded to a Walter Bailey of Washington County in 1782, acreage that was described as "joining Thomas Taylor's lines," supports the assertio that Thomas Taylor and his first wife Anna Campbell Taylor were established in Carter's Valley on the north side of the Holston River during the late 1770s.
