This Thomas Smith was born in Connecticut around 1780. In the 1840 Census there are four Smith's who are heads of households, Thomas, Isaiah, Homer, and A. Smith (probably Absolom). Thomas is the only one of those four still in Lawrence County in 1850. In 1860 he and wife Rachel are living in household of son Henry C. Smith. I found a marriage record for a Thomas Smith and Rachael Moss in Fauquier Co. Va. on 5 Dec 1810... I'm assuming this is them for now.
