About Thomas Person

Brig. Gen. Thomas Person was born in Virginia in 1733, son of William Person, who served as the first Sheriff of Granville County, North Carolina after coming in abt. 1740. Thomas Person served as Justice of the Peace (1756) and Sheriff (1762) in Granville County and represented the North Carolina General Assembly in 1764. He was a member of the House of Commons from 1777-1797 and was elected Brigadier General of the Hillsborough District Militia. Person County, North Carolina was named in his honor.
