  2. This regiment was the 1st that left the state; he was @ the battle of 7 Pines, Seven Days' Fight, and in the Wilderness, where he was severely wounded in the thigh. He spent some time in the hospital on account of his wound, and was not again in active service. He was @ home @ the time of the surrender.

He has always been a stanch and true friend of education, and while superintendent of education for the county did much to build up the country schools, the peoples seminaries of learning.
