His death certificate gave his occupation as "Preacher and Farmer". His parents were listed as Robert Monroe and Mary McBride, both born in Harrison Co., VA (now West Virginia). The informant was R. A. Monroe of Elizabeth, West Virginia.

Obit received from Michael McTeer 7 Nov 2011: Wirt County Journal, Friday, April 22, 1932 Rev. T. J. Monroe Answered Summon. Rev. T. J. Monroe, aged 84, died Wednesday morning, April 20, at 6:00 o'clock at the home of his son, R. A. Monroe, near Cherry. He had been suffering for sometime from an attack of the flu but was not considered seriously ill until just a few hours before his death. He was for 60 years a minister of the Baptist church of this county. Many couple were joined in marriage and many were baptized under his ministry. He was a man who was highly esteemed by the many friends who knew him in all this section of the state. He is survived by his widow who at the present writing is seriously ill; two sons W. A. Monroe of Kanawha Station, W. Va. and R. A. Monroe at whose home he died; and one daughter, Mrs. Mart Lockhart of Vienna. Two daughters preceded him to the grave. The body was brought to the Pomroy funeral home at Elizabeth and prepared for burial. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 from the Shiloh Baptist Church at Dulin with Rev. T. B. Turley of the North Parkersburg Baptist Church officiating. Interment in the church cemetery.
