"Emigrants from Ireland, Thomas McGrath came to Mara with his wife and children in 1846. Thomas and Penelope died shortly after settling in ther area.

Pat and Cecelia stayed in the Brechin area. Pat was the owner of the hotel located where in later years, the Victoria Hotel was erected.

Cecelia taught school in Point Mara. She then went to Owen Sound and returned to Brechin as the wife of Mr. Thomas Roach. Thomas Roach bought the hotel from his brother-in-law, Pat McGrath.
