As a footnote, Tom McCauley was a suitor to my grandmother, Susan Greenwell Browning. She always bragged that she had 3 offers: one from Tom McCauley, one from Jim Browning (both men were nephews of her husband-to-be) and William Browning. She chose William because "she would rather be an old man's darling than a young man's slave." William was 25 years old than she was at age 23 when she married. William fathered 7 children in 20 years before his death at age 68 - my father, William (Jr.) was 18 months old when his father died. William purchased the farm on which my father now lives in 1869 - my father is now age 84. The farm has only had two owners in the last 128 years.
