  1. ↑ Thomas was killed by Indians during a raid in April of 1782. This event is described by Emory Hamilton in one of his "Indian Atrocity" stories. According to Hamilton, Thomas led a party in pursuit of Indians who had attacked the Ingles Family. In the same raid, two daughters of Thomas' brother, James Maxwell (Great White Chief) were also killed. See Hamilton's Atrocity Stories, #47
