    ORIGIN: Burton Dassett, Warwickshire.
MIGRATION: 1635 (based on appointment to Dorchester committee on 4 January 1635/6 [DTR 15]).
REMOVES: Boston 1648 or 1649 [SLR 1:105; 2:218]. (The earlier records in which Thomas Makepeace acquired land in Boston must indicate a desire on his part to move from Dorchester to Boston, expressed as early as 1637 but not consummated for another decade [BTR 1:19, 39; BBOP 13]).
OCCUPATION: Merchant. On 23 May 1650, in "answer to the petition of Thomas Makepeas, for the releasing of a certain parcel of board seized on by the customer, it is ordered, that the one-half of the forfeiture, which is the country's right, shall be remitted; but the Court cannot give away the other half, which is & doth appertain unto the officer" [MBCR 3:192-93, 4:1:10]. His inventory included an extensive list of cloth and other dry goods, far beyond those needed by a single household [SPR 5:31-32].
CHURCH MEMBERSHIP: On 25 July 1641, Boston church issued a letter of recommendation to "Mrs. Elizabeth Makepeace lately called Mrs. Elizabeth Mellows but now the wife of Mr. Makepeace of Dorchester, unto that Church there" [BChR 34].
