Thomas L. Lutz was a Civil War Private, Company D, 12th New Jersey Vol. Infantry. His family learned that he told his children he fought in the streets of Baltimore and fought on Lookout Mountain; he told of a rope ladder used to scale the Mountain.
Thomas L. Lutz was married three times. With his first wife, Achsah Ann Hageman, he had four children, Charles, Hannah, Antone, and William. With his second wife, Susan Head ford, he had three children, John Bareford, Rachel, and Clarence. With his third wife, he had six children. Charles, Samuel, Susan, Edna, Mary, and Edna Mae.
The second wife, Susan Head Ford, was married to Asa (Acy) Ford, and they were the parents of two children, one of whom was Wesley Ford, the Ralph Cossaboon Ford, husband of Clara Mae Lutz lord, who was the daughter of John
Ford, who was the daughter of John Bareford Lutz.
Thomas L. Lutz is from a family of glassblowers. He gave his occupation as farmer on his Army enlistment and pension records.
Thomas L. Lutz is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Mellville, NJ. His grave stone was put up by the Army, and his name was misspelled as Lutts.
