Thomas Laughlin and Mary Ann McIlhargey has a daughter Mary Catherine Laughlin. She was married to John W. Smith. They had a son by the name of Joseph Benedict Smith who was born in Brandon, Ontario, Canada on 17 Feb 1892. Mary Catherine died on 28 March 1892. My cousin has the burial plate. The story is she died in a hotel fire. I have found no evidence of this fire.

The Laughlin's moved to the United States shortly after Mary Catherine's death. I found the 1900 Census Records (Refer to Notes). The Census shows Joseph Smith living with them in Chandler Huron Michigan. I found Joseph living with his father, John W. Smith, in 1910.
