Moved NC to Drew Co., AR 1851. Spent some time at Attala Co., MS enroute to Drew.

During War Between the States, became Deputy QM under Maj. Latimore in the state service, and for some time was stationed at Fulton, after which he was detailed to steamboat service, and was captured at Poplar Bluff on Bayou Bartholomew, this being the only time he was exposed to Yankee bullets during his service. Soon after being captured he was paroled, and on June 4, 1865, returned to his home to find most of his property destroyed but immediately set to work to make good his losses, and more than did so.
