"3. Thomas Judd, son of Lieut. Thomas Judd, of Waterbury, married Sarah Gaylord, daughter of Joseph Gaylord, senior, April 11,1688. He was a Deputy to the General Court from Waterbury, five or six times, and his cousin, Deac. Thomas Judd, was a Deputy with him from W. at five sessions. He must have been a school teacher, for he is sometimes called in deeds, Thomas Judd, schoolmaster. He purchased or inherited a large farm in Farmington, next to Hartford line, and he removed from Waterbury to this farm about 1709. He afterwards bought land in Hartford, adjoining his farm, and he built on his Hartford land and lived in West Hartford until his death, Aug. 24, 1724. His home farm and two houses and other buildings, were appraised at £410, and he had other lands, and gave land to each of his daughters. His children were all born in Waterbury, except the youngest. His age was not far from 61.

This Thomas Judd, his brother John Judd, his cousin Deac. Thomas Judd, and William Judd, son of the latter, each held the office of Town Clerk of Waterbury, between 1696 and 1720. The penmanship of one or two of them is awkward."

The last will and testament of Thomas Judd of Hartford is as followeth: I give to my eldest son Thomas Judd, where his house stands, land that bounds from the highway south next to heirs of John Judd decd. 17 rods; then a straight line to the corner of the lott that was Skinner's, next Lt. Seamore's; then east from that into Hartford bounds 24 rods; so a straight line from sd. 17 rods to a stake 24 rods into Hartford bounds, next the highway; and the acre and the half given out of Farmington highway, the sd. land butting north on sd. highway is in Farmington bounds and Hartford bounds. I give to my son Joseph, next the highway (on the south side of the highway), 14 acres, to butt east on the little highway, west on that given to Thomas, so runs south till he has sd. 14 1-2 acres; the rest of sd. lott on the south side the highway from that given to Thomas and Joseph, I give to Joseph and Ebenezer, to be equally divided between them. Further, I give to Joseph and Ebenezer, in Farmington bounds, my right in fifth lott in that called the West Division. I give to my son Ebenezer the lott on the north side of the highway, and my house on sd. lott, on these conditions, he allowing his brother Joseph (if he needs it) the 1-2 of sd. house till he can provide one for himself, and give him 30 days work in building. Further, it is my will that my daughters, while they live single, shall have liberty of making my house their home, to be allowed fireroom, a lodging: room and cellar room for their necessary use without paying for it, they providing other comforts for themselves. Also, they are to have a garden allowed them. I give to my daughter Sarah, besides what I formerly gave her, 8 acres of land in Farmington bounds, in the lott I bought of Deacon Daniel Porter, to be laid to her husband's 12 acres in sd. lott, the rest of sd. lott being assigned. More, 30 acres I give to my daughters Elizabeth and Joanna, to be equally divided between them. I give to my daughter Mary my lott in the North Division in Farmington, next Simsbury. I give to my daughter Rachel in Farmington my lott called the third lott in the West Division. I give to my daughter Abigail my lott called the fourth in the West Division. I give to Thomas, Joseph and Ebenezer the arms called theirs, and to Thomas a third right in the timber chain, in the collar, the horse hames called his, and to Joseph and Ebenezer the plow irons and cart irons, yoke and horse gears. I give to Thomas, Elizabeth and Joanna my right in a tract of land in Farmington bounds not laid out, being at the southwest corner, next to Waterbury bounds. I give the remainder of the boggy meadow in Farmington bounds, south of Thomas, to Joseph and Ebenezer. I give all my moveables not here given away, excepting the old oxen and my horse, I say all the rest, as neat cattle, sheep or swine, and all moveables within doors, to my daughters, Elizabeth, Joanna, Mary, Rachel and Abigail, to be equally divided amongst them all, except Mary, who is to have a half part or half so much of the moveables because she has it elsewhere. Further, my will is that my part in the Copper Mines shall belong in equal share amongst all my sons and daughters. I appoint my sons Thomas, Joseph and Ebenezer to be executors.
