    THOMAS JOHNSON, M. D., Clarksburg.
Mr. Johnson was born in Oswego County N. Y., January 14, 1827; his parents were Lucas and Rachel Johnson who were natives of that State, but removed to Indiana about 1840, and settled near Connersville, where Lucas Johnson, now lives, the mother having died in Laurel, Franklin Co., in that year, 1873. Thomas was the eldest son ; he took a preparatory course and spent some time at Asbury, after which he taught school awhile. About the year 1851, he began the study of medicine with Dr. Kitchen, of Laurel, Ind.; at the end of three years, he commenced practice at Dalton, Wayne Co., and shortly after this at Columbia, Fayette Co., where he remained until the autumn of 1857, when he moved to Clarksburg, where he has since resided. In 1864, Dr. Johnson entered the Cincinnati College of Medicine and Surgery of Ohio, at Cincinnati, and received the degree of Doctor of Medicine the following year.

On the 22d of January, 1854, he was joined in marriage with Miss Margaret J. McNeal, of Fayette County, which union resulted in a family of three children
    - Jesse B. F. (deceased),
    - Zena R. and
    - Una May.

Mrs. Johnson died in the fall of 1870.
His present wife was Miss S. F. Gest, of Decatur County, to whom he was married May 28, 1871.

He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and a Republican in politics. Dr. Johnson is a man who does not jump at conclusions, being inclined to consider carefully whatever claims to be worthy of attention. He stands high in the estimation of his fellow practitioners, and is known to be a close observer of all that is presented for his professional inspection. As a successful physician he has an extensive field of practice and the confidence of a large number of families and individuals. He has no sympathy with charlatans, while he is ever ready to defend those true principles which have been fully established by research and experience. He is a member of the Decatur County Medical Society. In January, of the present year, he removed to Greensburg residence and office on East Main street, in the "Cumback Block."
