Thomas did not have a sister named Sarah in the 1850 or 1860 census; and since the 1880 census appears to indicate a second wife, it looks like this 1870 is the only record of Sarah as the first wife. The two Jackson children in the 1880 census must be from the first wife as his second wife had a child born abt 1775 from a previous marriage.

In 1880 Thomas is living with his 2nd wife, Mary J. and her son by a previous marriage, Earnest Decker. This Thomas is not to be confused with another Thomas Jackson and wife Mary, also on the 1900 Census in Clay Co., Indiana. This second Thomas's mother was born in Pennsylvania and is not Carter and Malinda's son.

The census records for 1910 indicate that at this time, at least temporarily, Thomas and two sons were in Arkansas, but later came back to Indiana.
