[Alamance County_Feb 2006_backup.FTW] In 1900, he was living with his widowed mother, Elizabeth, in a rented house in Coble Township. This house was close to the farm rented by James Shepherd and Julia Ann Isley Shepherd. According to the 1900 Census, Thomas could not read or write and had no occupation. Additionally, he was still single. The Alamance County newspaper, Gleaner, printed the following obituary on 22 September 1904: Isley, Thomas died Tuesday, September 20 [1904], near Gibsonville. Buried at Friendship Church.
