Tommie, as he was know as a kid, was born and raised in the small farm area of Lorena, Texas. He and his brothers were well known in the community as the real Little Rascals. Being the oldest of five boys, Tommie had many responsibilities growing up along with looking out for his brothers. Tom served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was attached to the Texas 36th division {T-Patchers} and fought primarily in the Italian theater of the war. He was awarded the Purple Heart for an injury suffered during the crossing of the Rapido River in Italy in an attempt to take a German fortress. After the war he returned home and went to work for the U.S. Postal Service and carried mail for close to 20 years. Tom lost his battle with cancer on his birthday in 1994. He was 77 years old and now rests next to his mother and father at Rosemound Cemetery In Waco.[Ron Hooper]
