As of November 1998, the headstone on his grave has his year of death as 1909 which is incorrect. He died in 1919.

He was a milkman. The milk came from his father's dairy farm in Hampshire, Illinois. He would pick it up at the train station and sell it as a street vendor in Chicago. The milk was not bottled and people would bring their containers to the cart to be filled with a ladle.

The 1880 Kane County, Illinois census (page 4, Supervisor's District No.- 2nd, Enumeration Dist. No. 91st) taken on the 10th of June records Thomas as the 10 year old son of Luke and Bridget HIGGINS (household number 52/53). He is listed with his brothers John (8) and William (6).

Information, giving by his wife, on his death certificate states his birth as Nov. 1870. On his marriage license in August of 1903, his age is giving as 29, which would make the year of birth 1872.
