1. Henry Freeman was born about 1769/70 in England. He died on 13 Oct 1763 in Woodbridge, Middlesex, New Jersey. Judge Henry Freeman and Elizabeth had 13 children: 8 boys and 5 girls. All except Sarah married and had families of their own. There were 53 listed grandchildren.

Henry came into Woodbridge, Middlesex Co, New Jersey with his mother who had been widowed, and two siblings. Henry finished his education in Woodbridge and was later appointed as one of six judges of the Court of Common Pleas of Middlesex County by the royal governors of New Jersey. It was apparent that he was thought highly of, as he was re-appointed to judgeships until he retired.

Henry became a man of considerable wealth, and lived into his 94th year. He is buried in the Presbyterian Churchyard at Woodbridge where his tombstone stands among several generations of his descendants.

In the book, Woodbridge and Vicinity. The Story of a New Jersey Township By Rev. Joseph W. Dally Hunterdon House Madison, N.J. 1967 Page 278 the following was extracted: "On the first Thursday evening in June, 1780, a party of thirty Tories landed on the Raritan River and proceeded to Woodbridge, where they captured Justice Freeman, a Mr. Edgar, six other white persons, and two Negroes, all of whom were taken to New York."

Henry's wife Elizabeth was of French Huguenot heritage. Her name was properly spelled "Baignoux", but has been misspelled by many because of a phonetic spelling error made by a marriage records clerk which was written :Benue. For a complete discussion on Elizabeth's maiden name and potential parentage, see "Ancestors and Descendants of Lewis Ross Freeman with related families". [Florence (Patty) B. Myers, 15 Campden Circle, San Antonio, TX 78218]
