Bernard & Wife to Fisher & Wife Indenture
This indenture made the 22nd day of April 1779 between William Bernard and Sarah Bernard his wife the one part and Thomas Fisher and Betty Fisher his wife of the other part. Witnesseth that William Bernard in consideration of 30 pounds of crop tobacco and cask has sold unto Thomas Fisher and Betty Fisher his wife all that tract, moiety parcel of land situate on Bridge Creek in the County of Westmoreland containing by estimation 500 acres, being the land devised to the said Betty Fisher in the will of her late father Robert Vaulx, deceased and by the said Betty Fisher together with the said Thomas Fisher sold and conveyed to the said William Bernard in fee simple by indenture of bargain and sale. In witness whereof the said William Bernard and Sarah Bernard his wife have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written.

Commonwealth of Virginia to Samuel Oldham and Burditt Ashton, Gent. Murray is William Bernard and Sarah Bernard his wife by their indenture of bargain and sale dated the 22nd day of April 1779 have sold and conveyed unto Thomas Fisher and Betty Fisher his wife of the County of Westmorland the fee simple estate in 500 acres of land thereabouts Scituate in the said County of Westmoreland and whereas the said Sarah cannot conveniently travel to the court of Westmorland to make acknowledgment of the said conveyance. Therefore, full power and authority is given to you or any two of you to receive the acknowledgment that the said Sarah Bernard shall be willing to make. Witness Richard Bernard, clerk of the said court the 26th day of April.
King George County to wit: in obedience to the within written William examine the said Sarah Bernard privately and apart from her husband touching her acknowledgment of the execution of the within mentioned deed and do hereby certify that she did the same freely and voluntarily and that she is willing the said deed should be recorded in the said County Court of Westmorland. Given under our hands and seals this 25th day of June 1779.

At a court held for Westmoreland County the 27th day of July 1779 this indenture of bargain and sale and receipt thereon endorsed were proved by the oath of John Dickie in the same having been before proved in June last by the oaths of Thomas Jett and John Washington witnesses thereto and together with a commission annexed to take the privy examination of Sarah Bernard the wife of the within named William Bernard and a certificate of the execution thereof are together with the said indenture order to the recorded.
