Thomas was born in Providence, RI., about 1696. He married there Abigail Knight. He was a freeman of the colony in 1720. On 7 June 1725 he received from his father, "for fatherly love and affection…lot of land where he liveth, in the lands of Pawtucet, on west side of Pauchasset River, 140 acres and buildings." He received other lands from his father in 1734/35 and 1738/39.
In 1741 he speaks of his grandfathers, Thomas Field and William Hopkins (actually step-grandfather). He is then forty-six years old. Two Thomas Field, Jrs., are llisted as freeman of Providence, probably this Thomas in 1747 (whose father did not die until 1752), and his son in 1754 (when he might have aquired sufficient property to qualify).
His will dated 21 April 1774 and written in Scituate, RI., was proved there 20 May 1777. The will or a copy is in the archives of the Newport Historical Society.
