Thomas Durbin was brought to Maryland from England with Lord Baltimore in 1638. The Durbin family is found named in Baltimore County land grants and descendants resided in what was once Baltimore County, now Harford County, and migrated to western Maryland, Washingron County, PA, Ohio and points west. Thomas bought a 200 acre tract for 2500 pounds of tobacco, located onthe north side of the Patapsco River, near Welshmans Creek, in 1676. He owned a property known as "Hab-Nab-at-a-Venture", surveyed as 350 acres on June 30, 1688.
