Thomas Dunham was born on 10th February 1804 at Wheathampstead in Hertfordshire, and baptised there just over a month later. He was the son of a Benjamin Dunham and Ann Phillips.

When Thomas was 26 years old he married a Susannah Parsons at Wheathampstead. She was about eight years younger than him. They appear not to have had any children. The 1841 census finds Thomas and Susannah living at Marshalls Heath in Wheathampstead, with a young boy called William Parsons, presumably a relative of Susannah's, and an elderly Ann Dunham, presumably Thomas's mother. Thomas was working as an agricultural labourer and Susannah as a plaiter.

Thomas died aged 38, being buried at Wheathampstead on 4th January 1843. Susannah remarried just over a year after Thomas's death.
