[edit] NotesThe history records of Rockbridge County, Virginia has recorded that Thomas Dougherty was married twice in Rockbridge County, Virginia. Rockbridge County, Virginia was formed from Augusta and Botetourt Counties, Virginia. However, the settlement within the bounds of present day Rockbridge began in 1737, in Borden's Grant. The area was then a part of Orange County, Virginia. Augusta County, Virginia began keeping records in 1745, and covered what is now many states. In 1770, Botetourt County, Virginia was formed from Augusta County, Virginia. The present day Maury River formed part of thew boundary. It was called the North River in the 1700's. Thomas was first married to a Miss Margaret Little on 3 March, 1791 with a Joseph Little as the Bondsman. This record is contained within the Rockbridge County, Virginia Marriage Bonds Index, 1778-1801 under Thomas Dougherty as a groom. It is not know if Thomas and Margaret had any children or not and it is believed that Margaret died around 1800 and is buried in Rockbridge County, Virginia? Thomas was married for a second time to a Miss Jane Cunningham on 1 October, 1811 in Rockbridge County, Virginia. A record of this marriage is contained in Rockbridge County, Virginia Court Records, 1778-1850, Sec. V, Ch. 106.
