Thomas was born 7 May 1732 at Pembrey, Carmathshire, Wales. Pembrey is a small coastal town on the Southern part of Wales. It is located on the Carmarthen Bay. Sometime around 1760 Thomas immagrated to the United States. He married Betsey or Polly Freeland who was from Ireland. He probably met and married her in Maryland. They first child John was born 2 Jan 1763 at Conococheague, Maryland. There is a general tradition in the Dalton families that Thomas was a soldier in the American Revolutionary War. To this end the Author of The John Dalton Book of Genealogy, Mr. Mark A. Dalton did research to find any Thomas Daltons that served in the Revolutionary War. He found a Thomas Dalton. He did not try to hook them up with our Thomas Dalton. As I review this information and compare it with the information that I have on my Thomas Dalton I don't think that they are the same person. This Thomas Dalton was born in New York in the year 1757, my Thomas was born in 1732 in Wales. I received information and documentation from Helen Snelgrove that Thomas Dalton was born illigitimate in Pembrey, Carmarthanshire, Wales. He was the son of James Dalton. Helen visited the Parish in Pembrey and obtained the copy of the birth certificate which she gave me a copy in 1987. She state that the parish minister showed me a translated transcript of this entry. Maybe this is why he immigrated to America. If it was we can all be thankful for this event. My how such things change the events of many generations for the good and the bad. This information is also on Pembrey, Carmathshire, Wales film #105195. Here is the research that Mark found.
