Jeff Covington (1861 - 1914) was in the turpentine business with his brothers in Georgia in the 1880s, then returned to Wadesboro, NC c.1895 and established the Bank of Wadesboro in 1902 and was its first president. He and his wife, Ella, lived in the house on Brent Street. Jeff and Ella had thirteen children, seven of whom lived to become adults.
