Of the ministers named, the Rev. Thomas Cooley, a native of England, was pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Edisto. He continued in this relation through this period and until 1790.

"The Presbyterian Church on Edisto Island", whose minister, Rev. Thomas Cooley, must have left them soon after. On the 16th of June, 1790, at a meeting of the congregation, a majority of seven to one were found to be against him, and it was agreed that he should be informed by letter of their dissatisfaction and its cause, and Norman McLeod and Duncan Littlejohn were appointed a committee to wait on him.

I am seeking further information on my husband's ancestors Sarah Ann Cooley (born New Jersey 1788, died Ohio 1836), who married John Craig in NJ in 1809, and her father, Thomas Cooley, a Presbyterian minister who came to America from England. Thomas is thought to have been born before 1755 and to have died around 1836, possibly in North Carolina. He was minister for the Presbyterian Church at Edisto Island, SC, a post from which he was dismissed, and he sought other posts in Virginia and New Jersey, but was apparently found to have forged credentials. I'm looking for the sources for this information, as well as his and Sarah's burial locations and obituaries, if any. I'm also seeking any other original documentation or leads for his arrival in the U.S. and family (wife, parents, other children). Thank you!
