At the time of his marriage at St. John's R.C. Church, Newark, Essex, NJ, Thomas W. Connolly was a 22-year-old farmer residing in Newark. He served in Co. C, 26th New Jersey Volunteers, during the Civil War. His regiment participated in the following engagements: Fredericksburg, Va., 13 and 14 December 1862; Fredericksburg, Va. again, 3 May 1863; Salem Heights, Va., 3 and 4 May 1863; and Franklin's Crossing, Va., 5 June 1863. On 19 August 1891, when he applied for a pension, he was living on New Bridge St., Belleville, Essex County. He claimed to have suffered rheumatism while on duty at Fredericksburg, Va. on or about December 1862, for which he was treated at the regimental hospital. He died leaving no surviving children.
