In 1639 the Coleman family immigrated to New England, settling first in Wethersfield, Connecticut from which Thomas Coleman served as a representative to the General Court in 1652 and 1656. In 1660, they removed to Hadley, Massachusetts, where they were among the first settlers. Thomas became a freeman there in 1661 [List of Freemen printed in NEHGR, 1849, shows no freemen admitted in 1661]. He was buried there 1 October 1674, leaving a will dated 20 September 1674.
